LISD to host middle school football championship games
The Laredo Independent School District Athletic Office is proud to announce the LISD Middle School Championship football games featuring M.B. Lamar Middle and L.J. Christen Middle Schools at Shirley Field.
On Saturday, November 29, the Lamar Middle School seventh grade team will take on Christen Middle School’s seventh grade team with kick-off set for 6:00 p.m. The winner of the game will be crowned the LISD seventh grade Champions.
Immediately following the seventh grade championship game, Christen Middle School’s eighth grade team will take on Lamar Middle School’s eighth grade team at 7:30 p.m. The winner of the game will be crowned the LISD eighth grade Champions.
All general admission tickets will be sold online beginning Friday, October 28. General admission adult tickets will be sold for $4.00, while student tickets will be sold for $3.00. However, free admission for all LISD students with a valid school ID. Anyone two years of age and older will need to purchase a ticket for general admission seats.
To purchase e-tickets go to the GoFan mobile app or log on to the district website at www.laredoisd.org and click on Athletic Games Ticket Purchase. Once there, search and click for your favorite school, select events, and purchase tickets. After you buy your tickets, use your mobile device to view tickets and present at the gate.
Also, the seventh and eighth grade football teams from Memorial Middle and Cigarroa Middle Schools will play in the runner-up games for third and fourth place on Saturday, October 29.
The Memorial Middle School seventh grade team will take on Cigarroa Middle School’s seventh grade team with kick-off set for 8:30 a.m.
Immediately following the seventh grade game, Memorial Middle School’s eighth grade team will take on Cigarroa Middle School’s eighth grade team at 10:00 a.m.
The ticket booth will open on gameday. A limited number of general admission and student tickets will be sold at the gate.
The LISD Gold Card for Senior Citizens, Laredo ISD Veterans Card, and UIL passes will also be accepted at the gate.
Lamar Lion fans are asked to wear Lion Green, Christen Cubs fans are asked to wear Cub Blue, Cigarroa Bulldog fans are asked to wear Bulldog Red, and Memorial Middle School fans are asked to wear Eagle Red.

The LISD Child Nutrition Department held the first Elementary Menu Advisory Committee (EMAC) Meeting this week at the Sanchez/Ochoa Elementary School Cafeteria. LISD elementary students from all campuses who are members of the EMAC taste tested and rated several new menu items that will be considered for next year’s school menu.
Some of the menu items that 138 students sampled included ultra-bean and chorizo burrito, blueberry muffin, breakfast pizza, pop tarts, boneless chicken chunks, nacho chips with cheese sauce, graham cracker snack, flavored popsicles, and much more.
During the year the students will assist with evaluating food items, discuss cafeteria dining issues, advocate for their peers, and help plan menus. Earlier this month LISD secondary students participated in the Secondary Menu Advisory Committee (SMAC) Meeting at the Trevino Magnet School cafeteria.

The LISD Police Department hosted its annual Trunk-or-Treat at J.C. Martin Elementary School. Second grade students with perfect attendance were able to enjoy watching Hotel Transylvania and some sweets!
The Vidal M. Treviño Ballet Folklórico, under the direction of Mrs. Mckinnis, had the opportunity to meet with the professional Ballet Nepantha members at Texas A&M International University.

The Pride of South Laredo had a victorious weekend claiming the first win of the Legacy Bowl Series! Congratulations, Toros!

The LISD Transportation Department held a School Bus Safety Parade! In honor of School Bus Safety Week, the department lead their way to Sanchez-Ochoa Elementary School this morning!
In honor of Unity Day, Laredo ISD has pledged to #ChooseKindness. During the Superintendent's Leadership meeting, LISD leaders and students were part of a Choose Kindness Proclamation Ceremony.

National School Bus Safety Week is an active and evolving public education program and an excellent way for parents, students, teachers, motorists, school bus operators, school administrators, and other interested parties – to join forces and address the importance of school bus safety. Designed to promote school bus safety, school districts throughout the country observe School Bus Safety Week. LAREDO ISD celebrates and are THANKFUL to our School Bus Operation!

Martin High School Yearbook Students attend Jostens Yearbook Workshop at Texas A&M International University! Way to go Tigers!




The LISD Parent and Family Engagement Department held its Life Skills Learning Session this morning. Parent volunteers had the opportunity to learn how to make cream cheese balls. In previous classes, parents learned how to make charcuterie boards, candy apples, and wreaths.
Vidal M. Treviño School of Communications and Fine Arts had a very special guest for Family Reading Day! Students and staff had the opportunity to meet with local published author, Raquel Valle Senties. Thank you, Mrs. Senties for sharing your poems and paintings with LISD.



L. J. Christen Middle School is dismissing its students this morning beginning at 10:30 a.m., due to repairs with the City's water lines.
Sixth grade students will be released at 10:30 am, while seventh graders will be released at 10:40 am. Eighth graders will be released at 10:50 am.
The LISD Child Nutrition Program will be providing warm, nutritious meals for Christen students.
The LISD Transportation Department will also be providing bus service for those students who normally rely on bus rides.
Martin, Nixon, and Cigarroa High School Bands to participate in UIL Music Region 14 Marching Contest on Saturday, October 15.
